Mullan Road Tour 2
Sat. - Sun. Sept 16-17, 2000
This tour, led by
and
took the participants from Walla Walla to Spokane on the
approximate route of the Mullan Military Road. Your
webmaster did not go, but once again has
provided us with excellent pictures and a report. "Saturday September 16. Grounds of Ft Walla Walla (USA), waiting for morning
tour of L&C sites to return. I joined them at lunch for Mullan Road
tour. This marker used to be across from the entrance to the Wash State Pen. but
was moved here." (Note: The full text reads: "MULLAN ROAD
From Fort Walla to Fort Benton MT. Located by Capt. John Mullan
1858-1862. Erected by the Washington Historical Society
1923". The idea was to provide a land link between the
heads of navigation of the Missouri and Columbia Rivers) |
At Dry Creek crossing and MMR Campground #1. Don is in road guiding. Left

After traveling 45 mph on a "Primitive" gravel road, we slowed down to 25
mph on a paved road to look at site of Ft Taylor, confluence of Toucannon (right) and Snake Rivers. Site of Ft Taylor in
foreground. |

sign that says tents allowed on gravel only. End of Saturday trip.
