Columbia Gorge Discovery Center
& Museum - The Dalles, OR
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Annual Chapter Meeting for 2001 was held Saturday, March 10 at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center - The Dalles,
Oregon. We had lively discussions of many topics, inducted Richard Herman as
a new board member, and gave an award to Joyce Bolerjack for her many
years of fine service to NWOCTA. We also approved an award to be given to
people who help us with trailmarking. Another subject was the cost and
delivery of the newsletter. We have decided to offer the UPDATE either by
snail mail or by e-mail, using a PDF file, which retains the same
formatting as the paper copy. This new technology is used by many
organizations and some other OCTA chapters, but it is strictly voluntary.
You may sign up for either option.
Chuck and Suzanne
Hornbuckle set up a display of the trailmarking activities. The results of
our last four years of labor have been reported to the National Park
Service in a large book of annotated maps, pictures and diary quotes. This
was a prodigious work and Chuck Hornbuckle deserves a lot of praise for
his monumental effort, not only in the field but at home with the
computer, putting it all together.
Dick Pingree gave a short
talk about the upcoming Naches Pass flyover tour. It sounds very
interesting.
for the program Susan
Badger Doyle gave a very interesting talk on the Bozeman Trail, which
was a late branchn of the Oregon Trail. Even though the diaries she uses
are mostly about the Montana Gold Rush, the beginnings were about the
beginning of the Oregon Trail. Another impressive work by one of our
dedicated and talented Northwest Octa members.
