January 11, 2002
The Officers and
Board of Directors met at the home of Joyce Bolerjack on Friday January
11. Officers in attendance were outgoing President Lethene Parks, new
President Glenn Harrison and Secretary Marley Shurtleff. Board member
Carol Buss and Past President Dave Welch were also there along with
members Chuck Hornbuckle, Dick Pingrey, and Tom Laidlaw. Chuck announced
the results of the election and the new officers are Glenn Harrison-
President, Jim Tompkins- Vice-President, Marley Shurtleff-Secretary, and
Joyce Bolerjack-Treasurer.
This meeting saw the goals of Lethene Parks realized in that a revised
set of By-Laws was drafted and presented by Glenn Harrison. Glenn devoted
many hours to this project as well as coming up with another fine slate of
activities for 2002 and preparing to take the helm of the NW OCTA. These
will be presented to the membership at our annual meeting March 16 in
Oregon City. Another of Lethene's goals was to find out just how
things were done and who did them and Marley Shurtleff took on the job of
finding out. She presented us with the new Officer's Handbook, which
elegantly outlines the responsibilities of the officers and standing
committees. Now we have job descriptions and procedure descriptions for
the guidance of future officers and committee chairs.
Dick Pingree has set up another fly-over. This time it will be from
Echo westward. Through Dick's efforts his Pilot's Association has taken
this on as an annual project. This is a great contribution to trail
watching, as the participants on last year's
Naches Pass Flyover can attest.
Chuck gave us a
preservation report and Dave Welch talked about some of the trail marking
project we have in mind for next year.
The pictures are of Joyce's Wild West Room, where she displays all the
souvenirs she has gathered over the years. Maybe someday she will give us
all a tour of her unique museum.
