| ???? Not sure how
to begin shopping at OCTA's new on-line bookstore? Worried about using
your credit card online? Fear not. The experience is very similar to real-world
shopping--but even easier and more convenient. Plus, you won't have to worry
about long register lines or wet cleanups on Aisle 9. This section provides
help for our bookstore. If you need more basic help on internet interaction
itself scroll down to the Internet Primer .
Keep checking this page for it will change in response to your questions,
especially during this first year.
Shopping
Cart (for smarties who just aren't quite sure how it all
works)
Just like a physical store, we provide you with a shopping cart. Once
you've discovered an item you want, simply click the text link marked
[Add to Cart]. You will be taken to the
shopping cart, where you can order whatever quantity you like, or choose
product options, such as color and size. From there the best way to shop
is to use the browser's back button. It will always take you back to where
you left off.
 |
If you want more than
one of an item change the quantity in the box to the left of the
item. Recalculation of quantity changes is automatic but you may wish to
verify them by clicking
recalculate.
 |
To delete an item
completely, reduce the quantity to 0 and click
recalculate.
 |
Complete your order while
in the cart or, while in the store, click on any
[View Cart] you can see. They
are all the same; they just take you to the shopping cart without ordering
anything. In many places, where there are several volumes of the same item,
there may be only one [View Cart] for
the entire group.
 |
On
the Shopping Cart Page, ready to check out.
Select Payment Type, then click
Finalize Order,
which will send you to the Shipping Page.
 |
On
the Shipping Page, Read the shipping information at the
top of the page, fill in the address form, and then your credit card information.
Scroll down below the credit card information and select
SEND to submit your order. This is the
real committment to buy. You will see that you may also
CANCEL at this point. In general you
should always scroll to the bottom of the page to make sure you see everything
on the page.
 |
Assuming
you
SEND
the order, you will immediately get an online thank you, and shortly
later an e-mail receipt. If you are paying by paper check, figure your shipping
and discount and send a printout of the e-mail receipt as an order form with
your check.
 |
Our office also immediately
gets an e-mail notifying us of the order. We then access the secure,
encrypted payment information using a unique user name and password
combination. Your credit card info is then erased from the system.

Security
Most importantly, shopping at the OCTA Bookstore is safe. Our
secure-server software encrypts your credit card number so that no one else
can read it, but if you are still hesitant there are: |
 |
Other Ways to Order---We hope you are comfortable with providing your
credit card number over the Secure Sockets Layer, but if not you can always
still use the shopping cart system and:
-
Use the I will send check payment option to tell us you will
send a paper check with a printout of your e-mail receipt. You will
figure your own shipping and discount. We will ship your order when we get
your check.
-
Complete order by calling 1-888-811-6282.
And you can simply use this number and make your complete order on the phone.
You can make payment arrangements and discuss shipping costs here with our
office manager, Kathy Conway.
-
Use the printable order form to pick books and
send it to us with your check. Don't forget to figure your shipping costs
and discount.
 |
Shipping Costs---Our shipping costs are too complex to
provide a positive cost on-line For now please trust Kathy to treat
you right or call the 888 number on your e-mail receipt to confirm shipping
costs. Your on-line receipt and e-mail receipt state that shipping and discounts
will be figured at office and reflected on receipt shipped with order. Items
not shipped with a particular order will not be charged to your credit card
until they are actually shipped.Discounts for member book orders
will be also be reflected on your final receipt. Thanks for your
understanding.

Frequently Answered Questions (FAQ)

Internet Primer
Working with the Internet is easy and fun, once you get used to it. If you
are reading this you must have already clicked on some sort of
or
hypertext, which called attention to
itself in some way. It is called hypertext, because it is out of the ordinary.
It has a link built into it that can take you other places, just like
a hyper-active child that never wants to stay in one place. The most common
form of indicating a link is blue, underlined
text, but each website designer
can use his own scheme, and some of them are quite fancy, with changing colors,
movement, etc. At this time I use the blue, underlined, text for only that
one purpose.
You may also notice that after you have used a
link to visit a place, the
link changes color.
It is now a visited link, and the change is to let you know you
have already been there. This again is at the discretion of each designer.
A may
have a border around it to let you know it is a link, and this border will
change when the
is
used. This is not always used, but it may be. If the designer has not given
you obvious clues, you can always find the links by hovering your
mouse over an item. The cursor will change to a hand and somewhere on the
screen, usually in the lower left hand corner, text will show up telling
you where you are about to go. As long as the hand is pointing at the link
it is clickable. Try it here. All the following links will stay on this page,
because I have used anchors, but they could take you anywhere in the
world.

Contact Us
The black link, not underlined, indicates where you are. I am using Contact
Us to mean the place where all the OCTA Adresses and phone numbers are.
As you see there is another navigation bar down here to get you back
to the catalog. Even with all these helps, often it is best to just use the
scroll bars and the browser's back button. It will always take you back
where you came from. |
