MARKING THE TRAIL is one of the most important functions of NW OCTA. Using existing maps of the trail made from early land surveys, we then look for obvious ruts and artifacts and mark the locations with white Carsonite markers. The work is done under a Challenge cost share grant from the National Park Service Long Distance Trails Program. All the time is donated, but certain expenses are re-imbursed to workers and the signs are purchased with the grant money. The marking of the trails also alerts businesses such as pipeline companies, who often alter their routes to minimize damage to the trail.  This is an exciting and satisfying way to get to know the trails more completely. Come and join us. Clicking on the highlighted dates below will take you to more details before the event and a report afterward.
