Each year the Northwest Chapter sponsors several Trailmarking expeditions. Vic Bolon is the current head of this project and he works tirelessly searching for trail traces and property owners. In 1998 he wrote 90 letters to property owners and received a majority of favorable replies. Thus we were able to mark the trail from Hilgard State Park to Meacham. 1999 brought us to Cecil and 2000 brought ust to The Dalles, completing a NPS Challenge cost share Grant.  The background work done by Vic is extremely important because it makes OCTA a responsible organization. While we want to mark and preserve the trails, we want to do it in a manner which engenders hospitality, rather than hostility, from the property owners. Chuck Hornbuckle is now completing a report booklet with GPS readings of the hundreds of new markers we installed, as well as new readings on old markers. The booklet has wonderful pictures and diary quotes. Click on the 2001 hanging sign for the current schedule or 2000 or 1999 or for past trailmarking expeditions. I keep three years on the menu but prior years are still available by special request.
